Chaumont Amour

A graphic identity language created by and for the people of Chaumont.

As part of the European Biennial of Graphic Design, the town of Chaumont launched a call for projects to create a graphic route through the town. Our project "Chaumont Amour" (Chaumont My Love), a 44 meter long typographic fresco inspired by the intimate stories of its inhabitants, was chosen. In participatory workshops with children, teenagers and pensioners from Chaumont, we collected a series of stories and anecdotes about their relationship with their town. We then worked with them to come up with fictional mottos and imaginary flags, like sensitive images of "their" Chaumont... All these flags are juxtaposed in the fresco, creating a poetic and iconoclastic sign at the entrance of the town.
