Field of Equality

Through visual data we show the weight and evolution of gender inequalities in the media.

Sport and art have the power to bring people together, create communities and encourage the sharing of experience (s). The notion of movement is the thread that runs through the artistic journey commissioned by the town of La Courneuve and the Department of 93. It takes the form of a walk through the town. As part of this journey, Atelier Baudelaire was invited to propose a monumental work on the scale of a handball court. Located between La Courneuve and Saint-Denis, this court is part of a vast sports complex designated as a training site for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

On the occasion of the "Sport Féminin Toujours" operation (14-20 February 2022), the French Ministry of Sports took stock of the progress made in terms of the feminisation of sport and its representation in the media. At the end of 2023, the day after the final of the Women's Handball World Championship, TF1 apologized for not being able to broadcast the match in full. An average of 3.95 million viewers watched the first half, then 3.2 million had to switch to a cable channel (TMC) to watch the second half and the French women's world title. This striking fact inspired the "Terrain d'égalité" project, which uses a colourful graphic composition to present a series of data and statistics on gender : unequal and unfair status which still persist in the world of contemporary sport.
